Black History Month is about celebrating, empowering, and standing together with our Black community at the University and beyond.

This year’s theme – Standing Firm in Power and Pride – recognises the strength, resilience, and creativity of Black people past and present. It’s a chance to honour history while spotlighting the voices, experiences, and contributions shaping our future.

Throughout October, the SRC will be working with students, clubs, societies, and University partners to host a programme of events and activities. From discussions and workshops to food, music, and film, we want to create spaces where our community can come together to connect, learn, and celebrate.

Black History Month isn’t just about looking back – it’s also about looking forward, challenging inequality, and amplifying Black voices on campus and in wider society. We encourage all students to take part, whether by joining events, sharing experiences, or simply learning more.

Check out the events listed below – and keep an eye out, as more will be added throughout the month.
