Join us as we march for safer streets!
We're marching together during 16 Days of Activism to demand action to make our streets safer and show solidarity with survivors of gender-based violence.
We believe that everyone, regardless of gender identity or expression, has the right to walk the streets at night without fear of sexual and gendered violence. We want to protest against the stigma surrounding rape and sexual assault, the victim-blaming that often occurs, and demand better for survivors.
Volunteer Stewards: We are currently recruiting for volunteer stewards to assist at the march. Visit our SRC Volunteering pages to register interest in this opportunity: https://www.glasgowunisrc.org/volunteering/opportunities/details/1279/.
Information about Gender-based Violence
GBV is a form and function of gender inequality (from ScotGov & UN definition). It can include, but is not limited to harassment, rape and sexual assault, and domestic abuse. It can also manifest in insults, intimidating behaviour, and abusing positions of trust.
This march is part of a collaborative effort between the University of Glasgow Students' Representative Council (SRC), Strathclyde Students’ Association (Strath Union), Glasgow Caledonian University Students’ Association (GCU SA), Glasgow School of Art Student’ Association (GSA SA) and City of Glasgow College Students’ Association (CitySA) to address GBV in our city.
If you are a UofG student and want to find out more about gender-based violence, you can complete our Let’s Talk: Online GBV Module on Moodle – we encourage all students to complete this course. Additionally we offer Let’s Talk workshops which you can find dates for and sign up to here.
This march forms part of the SRC's contribution to the University and SRC’s ongoing "Together Against GBV" campaign and 16 Days of Activism against Gender-based Violence.
