Overview

Meet the Angling Society on the steps of the GUU at 11:30am on Saturday 8th of March for a day out fishing and enjoying the Glasgow Angling Centre's (GAC) open weekend!

We'll walk together from the GUU to Firhill Basin on the Forth and Clyde Canal, where we'll set up some rods and get a line out! Fishing the canal requires a permit (£8 for the season running April 1st - March 31st); if you're keen on trying fishing but not wanting to buy a permit, we'll have some rods set up without a hook for you to try out! For those without their own gear, the society will have a limited number of rods to be passed around; or you can take advantage of the Angling Centre's open weekend discounts and grab some kit for yourself! No fishing experience is necessary, as we're always happy to help new anglers get into fishing!

After we've got some fishing done, some of the group will head down the canal to the GAC, where we'll enjoy a variety of casting and lure demonstrations, some great discounts, and even a fish tank! If you remember to register online, you can also grab a free pair of pliers! If it's all a bit much for you (it is a big shop!), feel free to ask the committee to guide you in the right direction (the staff at the Angling Centre are very helpful, too)!

We'll head back to the canal and fish until 17:00, when the reasonable of us will go home and those of us determined to catch a fish will start to freeze!
