Get ready to immerse yourselves in Scottish culture with a night of poetry, music, delicious food, and lively dancing at the UofG Welcome’s Big Burns Night Celebration at The Hunterian!

 

What is Burns Night?

Burns Night is a Scottish holiday celebrating the life and poetry of Robert 'Rabbie' Burns, Scotland's national bard. We'll honour his legacy with a traditional Burns Supper, featuring the iconic "Address to a Haggis," poetry readings, and a taste of authentic Scottish cuisine.

Your £5 ticket includes:

  • Taster of haggis, neeps, and tatties served with whisky sauce (vegan/veggie, gluten free and halal options available).
  • Sample of Scottish drinks, food and snacks.
  • Bagpipe performance and poetry reading.
  • Ceilidh dance with a professional band.

The Supper (5:30 PM - 7:00 PM):

  • Held in the iconic Hunterian Museum.
  • Enjoy a taster of haggis, neeps (mashed turnip), and tatties (mashed potato) served with a creamy whisky sauce. Vegetarian/vegan alternatives available.
  • Delight in Scottish snacks, sweets, and soft drinks.
  • Be captivated by a professional bagpiper playing live music.
  • Soak up the sweet words of Scotland’s most celebrated poet.

The Ceilidh (7:00 PM - 9:00 PM):

  • A ceilidh (pronounced kay-lee) is a traditional Scottish dance night featuring a live band and a whole lot of fun.
  • Move to the magnificent Bute Hall in the Main Building, where you’ll graduate one day!
  • Dance the night away with our energetic ceilidh band, GU Trad Soc!
  • No experience necessary - they'll guide you through the steps. moves!

  • As the event contains dancing, it will be pretty active so bear this in mind if you get tired easily and need breaks.
