Picture Vaughan Williams' renowned beautiful orchestration to a 1800s Cotswolds countryside backdrop with a vibrant but nosy local community. 'Hugh the Drover' is one of the only operas to have a bare knuckle boxing scene, pair that with mesmerising vocals and humorous acting and we promise an evening of true entertainment.
Come join us in the Glasgow University Union Debates Chamber for a 100 year anniversary performance since its first premiere! Every good opera has tragedy, lust and death and Hugh the Drover is no different acquiring the informal nickname of 'Love in the Stocks'. Come and watch to see this unfold.
GUOS is a student led opera society that aims to make opera a more accessible artform for both our performers and audiences, so we are super excited to showcase such a timeless love story to an even bigger audience this year.
Please note the performance begins at 7.30pm so leave plenty time for a pre-show drink and to get seated. Tickets will be available at the door but we suggest buying them in advance to avoid disappointment! (concession and Student tickets are available).
Venue Details:
The licket desk and the main seated area will be located on the 2nd floor of the GUU with the gallery seats the next floor up.
Please note that the main entrance has stairs and the easiest access to the performance space is via the big staircase and on your right.
If you require more information about accessibility please contact the GUU with any facility queries and email us so we can make sure someone is there to assist, if needed, for either performance night.
