Join us for an easy walk around Balloch Country Park on the banks of Loch Lomond!
The route is 10.5km and includes 300m of ascent. The trail is mostly paved or well-worn so will be relavitely accessible if a little muddy. You can find further information here.
We will be meeting at 9:30am at Glasgow Central Stations to catch the 9:45 am train. We expect to be back in Glasgow by 15:30pm. We suggest purchasing an open return ticket as this offers greater flexibility especially if you'd like to stay in Balloch after the walk.
We require walking boots or sensible shoes to attend this walk; we cannot allow you to walk if you do not have safe, appropriate footwear. As the weather can be unpredictable, we also require sensible clothing including waterproofs and warm layers. We suggest you bring plenty of water, food for the day and any personal medications. For more information please see our Shoe Guide and Safety Policy.
Bonus! Some of the committee will be staying in Balloch after the walk to wild swim in Loch Lomond. Feel free to join us! If you do plan to join us, even for a quick dip, make sure to bring swim wear, plenty of dry warm layers (including hat, gloves, thick socks) and extra food. (A hot drink/money to buy one is a good idea too). Equally, feel free to stay around just to paddle and chat. Please also remember, wild swimming can be a dangerous activity, particularly in November. It is up to you to make reasonable judgements about your physical health and ability to participate safely.
Please feel free to contact us with any concerns or questions about the walk, what to expect on the day, what to bring etc. You can message us on Instagram (@guwalkingsociety) or email us (guwalkingsociety@gmail.com) and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
All attendees must follow the GUSRC Events Code of Conduct: https://www.glasgowunisrc.org/policies/events-conduct/
Happy Hiking!
The small print: Tickets are limited for the safety of attendees and walk leaders, please do not attend if you have not reserved a ticket. Walking Society membership is necessary to attend. If you prefer to meet us at Balloch, please email us to let us know as this helps us to estimate numbers. If you are unable to attend, please inform us! This allows us to offer your ticket to others and send updates about the walk to the correct people.
