The GUSA Active Buddy Scheme is an initiative to help individuals who are looking for some support with getting started in sport and fitness at the University of Glasgow.
The GUSA Active Buddy Scheme (formerly GUSA Gym Buddies) is an initiative to help individuals who are looking for someone to get active with, by pairing them with a student volunteer who has undergone training from the UofG Sport Active Lifestyles Team.
For a four-week block, buddies are encouraged to exercise together as frequently as they wish, and are able to access the Stevenson Building and Garscube Sports Complex with their buddy, to use the equipment within these facilities and participate in the classes and activities that are on offer.
Should those who'd prefer outdoor activity, the scheme will pair you up with a like-minded buddy with whom they can walk, run or play sport in one of Glasgow's many green spaces.
The scheme represents the best way for students who are eager to get active to experience all that University of Glasgow Sport and GUSA have to offer, with the support of our trained Active Buddies. Sign up at our Sports Fayre and online from the 16th of September via @gusa_gram on Instagram.

Why is the GUSA Active Buddy Scheme in place?
The GUSA Active Buddy Scheme aims to aid those who are not already exercising for any reason. We pair each student up with a volunteer buddy with similar availability and interests for a four-week period. We hope that during this four-week period the student will become more comfortable partaking in exercise, and will hopefully have made a friend of their buddy.
Finding your Buddy
We try to match our buddies as best as possible on areas such as your interests and availability. If you are a student looking for a volunteer buddy, sign up at our Sports Fayre and online from the 16th of September via @gusa_gram on Instagram.
Becoming a Volunteer Buddy
Your volunteer role will involve taking part in social sport sessions alongside your buddy and arranging meeting times and venues, encouraging your buddy to be a confident independent university sport user along the way. In return, GUSA will provide you with training before you begin, constant support and overall an invaluable experience. If you are interested please contact gusa-health@glasgow.ac.uk
