About

If you enjoy meeting new people, learning or improving your skills, as well as keeping up with your fitness, then UofG badminton is the club for you!

Teams

The club has four mixed competitive teams which have had great success in previous years, including the 1st team winning the BUCS Trophy.

All four teams play in the Scottish BUCS leagues each year, with three of the four competing in the top two divisions as of last year. In our most recent season, our 4th team was promoted to the 3rd division. These teams allow us to play highly competitive games against other universities and participate in the Scottish University Championships and BUCS Individual Championships in Aberdeen and Sheffield, respectively.

We have high expectations for our teams this coming year and we look forward to continuing to find other ways to allow as many players as possible to play in competitive games.

Recreational

Our recreational sessions are open to all club members with all standards of play catered for in a friendly, sociable environment. UofG Sport also offers drop-in sessions where gym members can participate in a recreational set-up.

We run Recreational Tournaments twice per year, these are fun social doubles tournaments with a small entry fee which is used for fundraising or charity donations.

Training

We offer several recreational sessions per week. These sessions are hosted at a variety of venues to increase ease of accessibility for as many members as possible.

Each of our teams’ trains with a professional coach every week. These sessions are mandatory should an individual obtain a space on a competitive team through trials which run at the start of each semester.

Socials

The club also has a vibrant social scene with events arranged throughout the year. Along with regular nights out, you can look forward to events such as the subcrawl, Christmas Dinner, and joint social events with other clubs.

Insurance

It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the appropriate insurance cover for any activity you take part in.  Upon joining, please check the level of insurance cover we, as a club, provide to you.

GUSA recommends that all students playing high risk sport, go abroad to compete/train, or are playing in governing body leagues, may want to consider/need to take out personal liability insurance, or join the sports governing body to be covered.  Some insurance providers also offer specialist sports cover.
