About

Glasgow University Fencing Club is one of Glasgow University's most successful sports clubs, and the largest fencing club in Glasgow.

We run a range of sessions and cater for fencers of all abilities; those new to the sport can join a beginner's course to turn you into a fencer, and for experienced members we have teams regularly representing the university in BUCS leagues and individual competitions.

Teams

Men's and women's teams, both regularly competing at a high level
Lots of opportunities to compete for new fencers and those not on the teams
Many members who choose not to compete and fence recreationally
Socials
We run regular socials both for GUFC only and jointly with other local clubs, along with a weekly pub visit (after training on Fridays) so you can get to know the rest of the club members. We also organise trips away to competitions in Scotland and abroad that are open to all of our fencers.

Socials include Christmas and end-of-year dinners, along with our annual Last Duel event held in the GUU – the location of Scotland's last sword duel in March 1899 – and other assorted events throughout termtime.

Training

Training takes place in the Stevenson Building.

Insurance

It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the appropriate insurance cover for any activity you take part in.  Upon joining, please check the level of insurance cover we, as a club, provide to you. British Fencing provides a 90-day-long free insurance cover, intended for beginners and those new to the sport.

GUSA recommends that all students playing high risk sport, go abroad to compete/train, or are playing in governing body leagues, may want to consider/need to take out personal liability insurance, or join the sports governing body to be covered.  Some insurance providers also offer specialist sports cover.
