Launch Foods is a Glasgow-based charity, established in 2018, dedicated to combating food waste and child hunger, by addressing both food insecurity and environmental sustainability. Their mission is to provide nutritious meals to children and families in need by repurposing surplus food from local businesses and supermarkets that would otherwise go to waste. They also have a café in the city centre, where all proceeds go to back into the charity.
Launch Foods operates with a strong community focus, as they deliver free, hot meals everyday through their mobile food trucks situated in local primary schools, such as Cowcaddens and Govanhill in Glasgow. They have noticed a huge difference in children’s motivation and work ethic in school, because of these meals. They also aim to help them make the right life choices in the future, so that one day they are able to grow up and pursue their career goals or even come to the University of Glasgow.
