Are you ready for another year of BlocSoc? A welcome to UofG Minecraft from the founder and President.
Welcome to UofG Minecraft, aka BlocSoc!
Hope I got the chance to meet you during Freshers! If not, let me introduce myself, my name is Bailey! I use he/him pronouns and I'm most commonly known through the society's here as "Minecraft Man" (the one and only I might add.)
I started University in 2020 during Covid and spent a lot of time hanging out in the Nintendo Society Discord, which eventually inspired me to create the Minecraft Society!
We now run weekly events, both online and in-person, host a 24/7 Survival Multiplayer at uofg.mc.gg that we never reset. Run modded servers over the holidays and even work with external charity/museum groups to recreate real-world places in Minecraft.
BlocSoc aims to have something for every type of Minecraft enjoyer, from watching MCYT to high-level PvP, builders, redstoners, modded wizards, and dirt hut fans are all welcomed. You don't even have to actually play Minecraft, neither did most of the original committee!
We mostly run through our Discord, which I reccomend joining! But we will also send out emails when we can!
What to do First?
Once you've signed up and joined the Discord, please let the committee know! You'll recieve a message on join telling you where to notify us in! You'll now be whitelisted on the server, which you can connect to using the IP: uofg.mc.gg
There is a /survival, /creative and /campus world, which you can get to by typing out each in the in-game chat! There is also an online map here! You can use that to see unexplored area's to build your base in!
What about Events?
We run our weekly events on Wednesday, 6:30pm-9:00pm each week, what exactly we do at those events and where they are varys!
Don't worry if you can't make those! We also sometimes will be running Saturday events, like our "Life Series" re-creations, UHCs and more!
What's all this about a "NerdCollab"?
The UofG Nerd Collaboration is a group of vaguely nerdy societies that work together to host larger scale events! We do Quizzes, Ceilidhs, Karaokes and more! Check out the societies involved here!
Sounds great!
Please check out our meet the committee posts back on our main SRC page, and from all the committee, can't wait to have you around in BlocSoc!
