The topic of Community Engagement and changing the way professionals engage with local people was raised as an issue at each and every one of the Urban Bites events held this academic year, so it made sense to discuss how we rethink community engagement at our last Urban Bites event of the year.
Urban Bites Events are designed to be a short series of talks by invited speakers. Each presenter has a 15 minute slot each, consisting of a 7 minute "lightning" talk followed by 7 minutes of Q&A.
Urban Bites 9: Rethinking Community Engagement explored a range of case studies and ideas around how professionals can better engage the local communities they work within. As well as sharing sucessful case studies and the theories underpinning those approaches, those in attendance were also invited to adopt new approaches such as Asset Based Community Development or Deliberative Democracy
