Are you looking to leave University with more than a degree?
Student Volunteering Week 2023 is coming soon and is designed to connect you with the wonderful volunteering opportunities we have available across Glasgow.
The week is a celebration of the commitment of our student volunteers and recognising the positive impact their work has on the community around them, not just on campus but in the wider area as well. Volunteering is about giving something back, and we want this week to be our way of giving back to you and highlighting your achievements.
This year, Student Volunteering Week is being celebrated between the 13th and 20th of February, and we have worked in collaboration with two worthwhile and exciting charities in Glasgow to provide exciting events and opportunities to our students.
Refuweegee:
This charity works tirelessly in welcoming new refugees to Glasgow and assissting them in their transition to Scottish life. Through their welcome packs and events, they bring together people who have been separated from their homes and communities.
The heart and soul of these welcome packs are their “Letters fae the locals,” A heart-felt letter, from a local Glaswegian, welcoming them to the city. We will be holding a stall in the James McCune Smith Building (JMS) on the 14th of February 12 – 3pm, where anyone, student, lecturer, or staff can come along and write one of these letters, welcoming someone new to the Glasgow community.
Repair Café Glasgow:
We’ve all broken something, and had to dispose of it, whether it be an old clock, a stuffed toy that has been ruined, or an old radio that is no longer in working condition. All this waste is influencing the environment, more than we realise.
Repair Café Glasgow’s mission is to stop all this waste, by fixing and repairing these broken items for people. Not only are they saving the planet, but also saving people money on buying new and expensive products to replace the ones they would have thrown out. We will be hosting Repair Café Glasgow in the Advanced Research Centre (ARC) on the 18th of February 12 – 3pm. Feel free to come along with your own broken items and find out what the team can do for you.
