About
Inspired by the 1989 movie, we are a society that appreciates the dark academia style and the beauty of literature, poetry, art, music and history. For the whimsical minds and non-alcoholic socials.
"We don't read and write poetry because it's cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for."- DPS, 1989.
While it is in our name, and we do adore it, poetry is not all you will find here. The Glasgow University Dead Poets Society is a space which was created to inspire individuals with a passion for the creative arts to meet others like them to share their thoughts and opinions on a wide variety of subjects, while harbouring a space for non-alcoholic social events.
Coming to university can be intimidating, especially for those of a more introverted nature, so the society hopes to create a welcoming and inclusive enviroment where anyone can thrive creatively and socially. We also want to have a space for socials that aren't prodominantly focussed around drinking.
Movie showings, Poetry meetings and Historical trips are all events we have successfully held in the past few years. From online to offline, we encourage in-person events as well as duscussion on out online community through discord so that meeting others like yourself is as stress-free as possible.
Our events include; Monthly Bookclub, Thriftshop crawls, Cafe-hopping, Writing corners for both creatives and academics, Book-swaps, Presentation nights and so much more.
