Glasgow Oral Health Improvement Student Society (GOHISS) is a society run by dental students from Glasgow Dental School.
Welcome to Glasgow Oral Health Improvement Student Society (GOHISS), where our mission is to “keep Glasgow smiling”. Established in 2013, our society is composed of dedicated dental students from Glasgow Dental School who are passionate about promoting good oral health in our community.
Our Initiatives:
Foodbank Visits:
Our volunteers regularly visit various foodbanks in Glasgow, including Glasgow City Mission, Everlasting, and SocialBite. During these visits, we distribute vital oral hygiene supplies and offer education on oral health. We take the opportunity to encourage individuals to prioritise their dental health and attend regular check-ups.
School Visits:
Throughout the academic year, we organise engaging visits to primary schools in underprivileged areas of Glasgow. Our lessons cover a range of important topics, including avulsion injury management, dietary advice, dental hygiene education, and fundamental dental anatomy. We believe in empowering the younger generation with essential knowledge for a lifetime of good oral health.
Public Engagement and Social Media Campaigns:
We're active on social media, utilising platforms to create impactful campaigns that provide valuable oral health advice. From informative posters to campaigns like 'Smiley Selfie' during National Smile Month and 'Blue Wednesday' for Mouth Cancer Action Month, we strive to engage the public and raise awareness about the significance of oral health. We also set up informative stalls at various venues, including the main campus and Glasgow Science Centre, engaging with the community and sharing knowledge about oral health.
How You Can Support Us:
Join us at GOHISS in our journey to make Glasgow smile brighter and healthier. Together, we can positively impact oral health awareness and practices within our community.
