Sulaiman Almusawi

As of now, our planet is at a tipping point, and we stand at a crossroads: to either uphold our duty to safeguard our planet or turn a blind eye and allow her to keep deteriorating.
As an environmental representative, I aim to ensure sustainability and integrate it as a natural part of our community, as well as a key part of the values we uphold. I will advocate for eco-friendly initiatives such as recycling and energy conversation while organizing awareness events to inspire action. I would love to be given the opportunity to work with staff and students to implement greener practices all throughout campus.
I am dedicated to implementing collaboration over compliance in supporting student-led initiatives over rules and regulations, allowing us to foster long-lasting solutions both students and staff want to support. I will strive to make our community a more sustainable and eco-friendly place, but also via engagement and education all throughout campus. I hope to leave a lasting impression on the University of Glasgow and ensure that it continues to protect and guard the planet we call home.

As your candidate for SRC Environmental Officer,
My first priority will be to advocate for the SRC to partner exclusively with environmentally responsible sponsors during Freshers Week and throughout the year. We must ensure that the businesses we support are not only committed to sustainability but also align with ethical values. I will push for our events to be fully compliant with the Palestinian-led Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions (BDS) movement, ensuring that we do not support or engage with companies that violate human rights, including those connected to the Israeli occupation.
I will also campaign for divestment from arms companies. It’s crucial that our university stands for peace and sustainability, not financial support for industries that profit from conflict. Together, we can make a stand and ensure our investments align with our values
Lastly, I will advocate for student societies and GUEST to foster a more sustainable campus. From enhancing waste management to exploring greener initiatives, together we can take steps towards creating a more environmentally conscious university.
