Oliwia Kolbusz
Hi! My name is Oliwia (she/her), I am a second year Veterinary Bioscience student, and I am running for the position of Gender Equality Officer.
I am the Welfare Officer at GUVMA for the vet campus and I am a University Mental Health Ambassador. I have experienced gender-based violence (GBV) before and do not wish it on anyone. GBV is unfortunately still a common issue that must be addressed, and support those affected. I believe that regardless of gender, everybody should feel safe in their environment and not be discriminated against. It is a priority to ensure all student voices and ideas are heard.
If elected I would:
- Further the promotion of SRCs current services, such as their GBV counselling
- Aim to have a compulsory diversity and inclusion Moodle which would include information on GBV
- Work with other SRC officers to develop a safe environment to all students, for example creating a safe room for students to use
- Support the wider area through charities fighting for gender equality by fundraising
Thank you for reading my manifesto, and I hope you will consider me as your next Gender Equality Officer!
Paula Merono Lopez
Hi there! I’m Paula (she/her),a public policy and management postgraduate student and I look forward to being your Gender Equality Officer!
My interest in Gender Equality is reflected in my research focusing on non-conventional forms of Gender-Based Violence as well as my involvement with feminist societies on campus like Glasgow Students for Choice or the newly founded FemCollab. After four years on campus and thousands of pounds raised towards reproductive health, I have witnessed improvements around Gender Equality but I believe there is still a lot more that can be done!
If elected I will:
- Ensure intersectionality is at the forefront of all Gender Equality issues by communicating with the student population and showcasing their concerns on a higher level
- Continue the work the SRC and the University are doing to mitigate GBV on campus by pushing ongoing policy work such as the Good Cause
- Create a safe space for those affected by gender discrimination and destigmatise reproductive health by working alongside feminist societies on campus
- Promote gender equality on campus to reach all demographics within the student body by proposing mandatory consent education workshops online
- Raise awareness on ALL forms of Gender-Based Violence!!!!
Vote Paula for Gender Equality Officer!
Natasha Pooley
Hello! I’m Natasha (she/her) and I am a 3rd year Politics student who is excited to be running for Gender Equality Officer! I have been an SRC Fresher’s helper for the last two years now, which has inspired me to run for council.
As the current President of GU Women in Politics, I know how important it is to make our campus a safe, inclusive and joyful space for all students. Amazing societies like Women in STEM, GULGBTQ+ and Students for Choice help make our campus a better place, if elected Gender Equality Officer, I would work closely with affiliated societies as well as the newly formed FemCollab to enact change on campus.
I would also:
- Campaign for the University to adopt the Emily Charter
- Work with the Welfare team to prioritise an intersectional approach to GBV
- Maintain an active dialogue with the LGBTQ+ officer and affiliated societies to support trans and non-binary students
- Make the content of the Let’s Talk workshops available online, increasing accessibility and the number of students engaging with its content
- Advertise current SRC resources around campus
- Create a guide clearly explaining the support and complaints processes at Glasgow.
Vote Natasha for representation on campus!
