Maia Piermattei
Hello! I’m Maia (she/her), a 3rd-year student of International Relations & Sociology excited to run for Gender Equality Officer at our University!
My experience as a member of the Students for Choice committee and the Women in Politics society made me acquainted with the advocacy of women’s, transgender and non-binary rights. Besides, being an international student and working as International Mentor enhanced my communication and liaising skills, which I consider crucial for this position.
My objectives are…
- making gender inclusion a priority across all student bodies
- raising awareness on GBV, how to tackle it, and bystander intervention
- ensuring that information on gender-related safety initiatives is available everywhere and at all times on campus
…which I aim to accomplish by…
- campaigning to make attendance to the Let’sTalk workshops compulsory for all societies alongside the completion of the Moodle course
- lobbying with other elected Welfare Officers to introduce a Welfare Position in every society (e.g. Inclusivity/Diversity Rep)
- cooperating with the relevant university-run services (GBV Counsellor, Peer Wellbeing Support, First Responders, Nightline…)
- putting up gender-related safety initiatives posters in the toilets across campus and in student residences
Put a “1” next to “Maia” on your ballot!
Valeria Conesa
Hi there! My name is Valeria (she/her) and I am a third year Aeronautical Engineering student. I am running for the Gender Equality Officer position. I have been part of the SRC fresher’s helper body for two years, which has enhanced my desire to represent the students on Council. I have been on the board of the Spanish Society for three years now and have been a class representative, this has improved my communication and responsibility skills.
From experience, as a woman studying in STEM and also involved in sports, I am aware of the deep inequalities still ongoing in our society. Therefore, my goals are:
- campaigning for the societies boards to have a welfare officer that will train with the resources available.
- to keep an active dialogue with the LGBTQ+ officer and affiliated societies to support their campaigns for women, trans and non-binary people’s rights.
- to further encourage the presence of STEM feminist societies at open days to introduce their degrees to women that are unsure so that they can be aware of the opportunities it can bring.
- to emphasise the support offered by the University to every single student.
Let’s make Campus a safe and vibrant space, vote for real change!
