Mara Perras
Hi,
My name is Mara Perras, I am a third-year medical student, and would like to run school of Medicine Rep this year.
I have experienced medical school both before and during the pandemic and know what a challenge that transition presented – and still does now .The blended approach is still rough around the edges and I know some students are dissatisfied – Especially the confusion during the move back to in-person exams.
I hope to improve the quality of communication between the medical school and students, making sure that information about exams is clear well in advance.
I would also like to create a more accessible avenue for students to voice issues – across all years - and encourage cross-cohort connection: we can learn so much from each other!
In addition, I would like to review some inequalities in clinical teaching (male and female examination) and find a way to better cover transport costs to GP placement.
While I have not held a position in the SRC before, I have been on the executive board of three societies, which gives me a some experience in communicating with the university.
I will do the best I can for you next year!
Pak Su
Hello everyone! I am Pak, a second year medical student from Macao. I am running for the position of school representative of the Medical School for the SRC. I have had many experiences working with the SRC. I was the class representative of the med school for two years and was elected as general representative of the SRC for 2021/22. Through this I understood how the SRC functions and this allows me to perform my role better.
Returning to campus has been very difficult for many medical students, the lack of on campus teaching for example. This has been much improved but I believe more can be done. Another problem revolves around the Wolfson library, which is no longer open 24 hours and on weekends. For international students who pay huge sums on tuition fees this lack of resources does not seem right. I aim to fix this and bring the Wolfson library back to being opened 24/7. Furthermore, diversity in the curriculum and mental health support has had many issues and I aim to deal with them as well. As your school representative I promise to be there and do everything in my power to solve your problems.
