Naomi Gillies

Hello ! I’m Naomi, a first year genetics/theatre student, and I would be honoured to be your next LGBTQ+ Officer. This year, I had first hand experience working with the student body and teaching staff as class rep for biology, science fundamentals and theatre studies which has improved my organisational and crisis management skills. This year in particular, it is vital we elevate queer voices and stories to support one another and prevent any more acts of violence against the LGBTQ+ community. If elected, I will ensure every voice is heard, representing the interests of my fellow LGBTQ+ students.

  • Working alongside the Gender Equality Officer to ensure policies and action towards safety and inclusivity of trans and non-binary students, including creating a straightforward guide to socially transitioning within the university.
  • Establishing an inclusive and educational resource for LGBTQ+ students and allies so they may be more informed on LGBTQ+ identities and issues.
  • Regularly communicating with LGBTQ+ students to stay informed on current concerns and raising these with LGBTQ+ university associations.
  • Working alongside the Disabilities Equality Officer to ensure absences and issues regarding medical transition are met with respectful and appropriate action.

Together, let’s make the University of Glasgow more inclusive!

Pablo Moran Ruiz

Hello! I’m Pablo (He/Him), a third-year biomedical engineering student, and would love to be
re-elected as an LGBTQ+ officer. During this year, I have had plenty of experience on how the
SRC works through having been a Fresher’s Helper, sitting on the welfare team in council, being
part of different academic and welfare committees, being a class representative, and actively
working as part of the executive board of the Spanish society. During my new time in office, I
will proactively invest my time in gathering student voice to represent the interest of the
LGBTQ+ student body by:

  • Approaching intersectional work with the Gender Equality and Race Equality officers to ensure actions and policies towards inclusive representation of the entire LGBTQ+ student community.
  • Actively promoting the establishing of student-led working groups as a place for student voice empowerment.
  • Promoting consent and sexual violence training to all affiliated club and society office bearers.
  • Advocating for LGBTQ+ visibility and mental health campaigns.
  • Guaranteeing appropriate resources and immediate action regarding sexual orientation or gender identity harassment.
  • Maintaining constant communication with LGBTQ+ university associations to enhance awareness of concerns arising within the LGBTQ+ student community.

Let’s work towards a stronger LGBTQ+ student community together!
