Savannah McNamara (they/them)
Hi! I'm Savannah, a third year Physics Bsc. student. I've been a class representative for the past three year, which has made me aware of how the school functions to support student voices, and improvements the school needs to make in order to ensure student success. I've been a part of a staff-student partnership that identified best-oractices for assessment in honours courses within the school, writing recommendations for courses identified to implement continuous assessment. From my experience representing students for three years, gaining an in depth understanding of how department issues are discussed, handled, and communicated with students, I'd like to accomplish the following as school representative:
- Increase the knowledge students have of support available to them, and help teaching staff identify trends in welfare concerns by having a student-support officer/welfare representative in the learning and teaching committee meetings.
- Continue applying pressure to implement varied forms of continuous and formative assessment, destressing students come exams.
- Improving the quality of community diversity in physics: I personally want to increase the frequency and awareness of Women in Physics and JEDI meetings, making the physics buildings safer and a more welcoming space for women and gender minorities and LGBTQ+ students and staff.
