Hugh Southall
Hi, I’m Hugh (he/him) and I am running for re-election as the School of Engineering Representative.
There is a learning curve to doing this job. If elected to a second year, I will be more proactive instead of reactive. I will also start writing a handbook detailing lessons that I have learned so that my successors can hit the ground running.
I will continue communicating with the class representatives and trying to resolve the issues that they come to me with. I originally ran on a manifesto of improving communication between staff and students. I have now found this task will take years and multiple school reps but I have partially succeeded by messaging all the class reps on teams the outcomes of meetings I attend.
In my time as School Rep, I have received 243 emails and sent 127 emails in 227 days of being in office (13/02). I successfully obtained an extension on the BEng preliminary report submission last November and pushed back against more in person exams for 1st and 2nd year students in this semester.
