Molly Corbett
I’m Molly (she/her), a 2nd year law student and I’m running to be Gen Rep.
Student Safety and Wellbeing
Promote student safety by pushing for the return of the Safe Taxi scheme and ensure students feel confident in using the scheme.
Support Glasgow Students for Choice in creating conversations about sexual and reproductive rights on campus.
Start a “Stop the Spike” campaign targeting the spiking epidemic. Tackle spiking by implementing an effective “Report and Support” system to collect data on spiking which can be shared with local venues. Ensure victims of spiking are signposted to welfare support.
Supporting the Strikes
Ensure that the SRC continue to support the UCU strikes and discuss making a statement of support for UNISON and UNITE strikers adding pressure to resolve the industrial dispute.
Oversee that students affected by the marking and assessment boycott have fair and equal opportunity in resit examinations.
Tackling the Climate Crisis
Add an “Environmental” section to the SRC advice centre ensuring students have better access to information on recycling and waste disposal in Glasgow.
Reduce food waste on campus by getting university catering to use the “Too Good to Go” app.
So, Vote for me, on your SRC.
Theo Frater
Hi there! I’m Theo, and I’m running for re-election as one of your General Representatives!
My priorities:
- Continuing to take a strong stance on capping student numbers and work alongside council to fight to ensure that the University keeps to its promises;
- Highlighting the cost of living crisis and how high prices on campus effectively exclude many students;
- Representing clubs and societies and championing their issues;
- Being open and transparent - continuing my General Rep surgeries from last year in popular places on campus.
My experience:
- As a recent SRC General Rep, and Court Assessor, I have gained an extensive insight into student representation, participated in organising events such as Home Students’ Day, and represented students at Court, the highest governing body of the University.
- As a two-time Welcome Helper, I have an insight into what goes into making SRC events run smoothly and how we can get people involved;
- Finally, I get involved across campus in the various unions as well as being a member of multiple clubs and societies, which has given me a good view of our social sphere and needs.
So, for a bold representative with principles, priorities and experience, vote Theo Frater #1 General Representative.
Abheer Kukreja
Hello, my name is Abheer Kukreja and i am second year IR student at the University. I’m passionate about economics, and I spend most of my time researching macro-relations and trade negotiations between nations.
I have a background experience working in G20 India in the Group of Women department (W-20) this year and was also First Year Representative at the SRC last academic year and I used my position to vote for student cap campaign, SRC granting fund for elections and assisted with student, teaching and society awards. This year, my focus will be more on widening participation and ensuring diversity at the University.
I am standing in these elections as General Representative to further work for SRC’s activities, and reaffirm my commitment for students’ needs, experience, and support.
My manifesto will support for following things:
•Increasing efficiency and support for Higher education’s needs and improving student’s’ experience related to learning.
•Additional support to ensure diversity in the university & safeguard all the communities at the University.
•Focused on delivering more anti-racism policies and campaigns.
•Support for more scholarships for the ethnic and less privileged backgrounds.
•Ensuring maximum access and participation of digitalisation and technology in University’s learning experience.
Max Thomson
Hi! I’m Max, and I’m a 2nd year Mechanical Engineering student. I was introduced to the SRC through volunteering as a Welcome Helper during Welcome Week 2023. This was an eye-opening experience which inspired me to take a more direct role in supporting students, and to advocate for change which I strongly believe would better our University.
What I aim to achieve:
- Improve the connection between lecturers and students. All students deserve to be kept informed and to receive the support they need during their studies; regular communication from lecturers is an essential part of this. I currently feel this isn’t always available or consistent.
- Promote services available to students across campus. The SRC provides a number of useful services via The Advice Centre. I would like to support the student body by making these services more widely known.
- Improve the availability of study spaces on campus, by advocating for additional seating in the JMS Learning Hub, as well as implementing ways for students to voice any concerns over the current usage of our University’s study spaces.
As General Representative, I would prioritise YOU, the Students, and make your University experience the best it can be!
VOTE FOR MAX :D
Briony Taylor
Hi, I’m Briony, a third year Politics with Quantitative Methods student and I’d like to be one of your General Representatives this year.
I strongly believe in holding the university accountable and providing students with effective representation, which is more crucial than ever as strikes continue to disrupt our education. Furthermore, I believe there are additional improvements that can be made to improve our student experience.
Thus, if elected, my goals are to:
- Organize a show of collective student pressure on the university to urge them to resolve the ongoing strikes
- Reverse previous, and prevent further, returns to in-person exams
- Advocate for the free provision of all mandatory course textbooks in digital form
- Secure the university’s commitment to upholding existing policies such as the cap on student numbers
Through my roles as a class rep, a class rep trainer, and a Welcome Helper I have gained a real insight into how representation and the SRC works, and I know I can use this knowledge to be an excellent General Representative for our student body. I will also have avenues through which you can contact me with issues throughout the year.
Vote for Briony!
