Angelica Wilson
Hi, my name is Angelica and I am a fourth year history student. I am nice, friendly, and I love a good chat! I would really love to be your new VP Student Activities as I’ve had so much fun in my time at university through the student activities hosted on campus, and I want to help others love them as well!
Experience
I was a SRC welcome helper in both 2022 and 2023 (for which I won best team leader), which was super fun and a great experience. This has helped me know the ins and outs of Welcome Week pretty well!
I am the current SRC Charities Officer which has helped me learn how the SRC runs and has given me the chance to be a part of the SRC community!
I’m the current President of the History Society, and I was the Secretary of the society for the year 2022-23 (for which we won best new society in the SRC VCS awards!!). This has helped me learn how to effectively organise events for students.
I’m also the current Raising and Giving Society President which has given me more opportunities to put on events to encourage student engagement on campus and raise money for charity with my committee. This has been my second year on committee, I was a RAG week officer on last year’s committee.
In Welcome Week I would like to:
- Make sure that those coming to the University of Glasgow for the first time are welcomed, feel safe and included, and have an experience that shows them all the great things that Glasgow University has to offer!
- Work with the other unions to highlight exactly what is offered on campus!
- Put on loved events from previous years like the headphone disco, outdoor film screening and the international ceilidh.
Throughout the year, I would like to:
- Ensure the products that are used for student activities hosted by the SRC are sustainably sourced and eco-friendly,
- Build a bigger sense of community within the SRC by campaigning for a bigger space for council members to come hang out, and encouraging society events to be hosted in the SRC building,
- Reach out to societies throughout the year to offer support and to remind them of the services that the SRC provides for societies to make the running of their societies smoother
- Try and support more engagement between academic societies and the schools that they represent throughout the year,
Things I’d love to do:
- Introduce a student market on campus roughly once a semester, for students to have a chance to sell products that they have made and to give societies a chance to sell any merchandise.
- Host a Student Activities forum with pizza and snacks for societies to have a chance to hear what other societies are up, to support each other, or to encourage collaborative events. This would also give them a chance to ask me any questions about SRC services that would support their societies.
