Saskia Drijver-Headley
My name is Saskia, I am a medical student, and this past year I have been studying global health as an intercalated degree. I am an active member of plant-based universities and student action for refugees, which has inspired me to push for change.
Students should have the right to be involved in environmental decisions made by their university. If elected, I will arrange in person and online opportunities to understand the concerns of students and bring these to management at the sustainability working group meetings.
I will campaign for a just and sustainable transition to plant-based catering, to tackle the climate and nature crisis. I would work to add carbon emissions to menus, to allow people to make informed decisions when buying food. I will push for divestment from arms, and the banning of recruitment by arms and fossil fuel companies at university events.
Given the link between climate change and displacement, I will call for the university to increase the number of sanctuary scholarships they offer to students with refugee status or those who are claiming asylum.
If elected, I will listen to your suggestions for a more environmentally friendly university and strive for change to be made.
