Are you looking to leave University with more than a degree?
Student Volunteering Week 2025 is coming soon and is designed to connect you with the wonderful volunteering opportunities we have available across Glasgow.
The week is a celebration of the commitment of our student volunteers and recognising the positive impact their work has on the community around them, not just on campus but in the wider area as well. Volunteering is about giving something back, and we want this week to be our way of giving back to you and highlighting your achievements.
This year, Student Volunteering Week is being celebrated between the 17th and 21st of February, and we are offering different activities and events on each day, corresponding with daily themes of volunteering.
What's On?
For a full list of events during Student Volunteering Week. Check out the list below.

Micro Monday:
On Monday the 17th of February, we will be launching a series of "Give it a Go" taster sessions. These sessions are a great way to explore our volunteering opportunities, meet likeminded students, and try something new. No prior experience is needed – just enthusiasm and a willingness to help!
Drop by our stall on the ground floor of the JMS between 12pm and 3pm, to write a ‘Letter fae a Local’ for new refugees arriving in Glasgow. This event is in support of local charity, Refuweegee, who strive to ensure that those who have been forced to flee their homes arrive in Scotland to a warm welcome and some of the things that will help them to feel more at home here.

Transferable Skills Tuesday:
On Tuesday the 18th of February we are hosting a transferable skills workshop with the University, SRC Volunteering x Employability: Understanding and Articulating your Strengths. The session will highlight the transferable skills developed through your volunteering; give an overview of courses and resources available to you; help you build a personalised skills record; and provide information on how you can receive formal recognition for your contributions. Keep an eye out for this event on our What's On page.

Wellbeing Wednesday:
On Wednesday the 19th February, we will be highlighting our wellbeing workshops, designed to equip you with essential life skills that will benefit you during your studies and beyond. Our workshops are delivered in-person and online and are free to attend:

Mind Your Mate provides training in basic mental health awareness and suicide prevention. It explains the boundaries that keep everyone safe. Topics covered include myths & facts around suicide; emotional resilience and depression; depression & suicide risk; and how to safely help someone using the Look, Listen, and Link model.

Mind Yourself accompanies our Mind Your Mate programme and is designed to help participants improve their mental health. This workshop introduces the mental health spectrum; the habits and skills of mentally healthy people; and emotional resilience.

Our Let's Talk About Sexual Violence workshops cover sexual consent, reflecting on societal messages about sex and how this might impact our understanding of consent. The aim of the programme is to help participants gain a better sense of what consent is and discuss how to have clear communication around consent. It also includes discussion around several scenarios of potential consent violations and how we might understand these experiences.

Thankful Thursday:
On Thursday the 20th of February, we are taking a moment to say thank you to our amazing volunteers and share their stories. We will be posting video testimonials throughout the day, which ask them about their volunteering experience and why others should get involved. Follow us on all our social media channels (@glasgowunisrc) to see what our volunteers have to say.

Community Friday:
Friday the 21st marks the final day of our SRC Spring Election nominations. We will be highlighting our Student Council positions available and how you can get involved to help serve your UofG community and enhance your skills & CV!
