The Gilchrist provides a comfortable and friendly environment in which postgraduates can engage with one another on both social and academic levels. The club features a seminar room, which can be booked out to host numerous events such as meetings, small lectures, research workshops, presentations or events. The seminar room (The WeeG) can host around 40 people in lecture -style seating and has tables that can be set up in board room style for meetings. Please consult our guide if you wish to book the seminar room.
In addition to our café seating, the Gilchrist also offers study booths.
The space is dedicated to U of G Postgraduates, and can be used as a study space and social space. It's perfect for finishing your essay, then enjoying a drink and a snack with some friends after lectures. The club has its own café/bar with food and drink provisions, including Barista tea and coffee making facilities, a wide selection of hot and cold foods and snacks and a selection of alcoholic beverages, including bottled beers, wines and spirits. Clubs and societies often use this space for events as well.
The Gilchrist Postgraduate Club is also the home of regular events such as our comedy night The Diversity Quota, Drag 101, Sir Jame's Pub Quiz Night and our Jazz evenings with the UofG Jazz Society.
The Gilchrist is named after Marion Gilchrist, who was the first female graduate of the University of Glasgow, and the first woman to gain a medical degree in Scotland.
The club is currently operating on Summer Hours:
