Your regular update from the SRC - looking ahead to the rest of Semester 1.
Hello University of Glasgow students,
We hope you're settling into the new academic year and ready for an exciting Semester One!
As your Students' Representative Council (SRC), we're here to support and represent you throughout your time at university. This newsletter gives you a glimpse of what's happening this semester, from key events and important dates to the initiatives we're working on to improve your student experience.
What's On This Semester?
Black History Month (October): Join us in celebrating Black History Month! We've got a fantastic line-up of events throughout October, including film screenings, arts & crafts, and social events. It's a chance to learn, connect, and celebrate the impact of Black people and Black voices. Check out the full event listings on our website: https://www.glasgowunisrc.org/bhm.
Autumn Elections (October): Want to make a real difference to student life? This election is shaping up to be highly contested, with many candidates running for various roles, from General Representatives to Welfare and Equal Opportunities Officers. We encourage all students to check out the candidate list, read the manifestos, and tune into the hustings broadcast (Wed Oct 16th, 6pm), and make your voice heard by voting on Thu Oct 17th through the UofG Life App. Find out more about the elections and how to get involved: https://glasgowunisrc.org/elections.
Disability History Month (November - December): We'll be marking Disability History Month with events and activities focused on celebrating disabled students, raising awareness about disability, and promoting inclusivity. Check out our website for updates soon and sign up to our DHM mailing list: https://www.glasgowunisrc.org/dhm.
16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (November - December): We're proud to support the 16 Days of Activism campaign. Look out for events and initiatives aimed at raising awareness about gender-based violence and promoting a safe and supportive campus for everyone. See our previous campaign efforts on our website and sign up to our 16 Days mailing list: https://www.glasgowunisrc.org/16days.
And More! Throughout the semester, there will be a range of events, wellbeing workshops, and activities happening across campus. Keep an eye on our website and social media for updates.
SRC Priorities
This semester, we're continuing our work on several key areas:
- Cost of Living Support: We're committed to ensuring that all students have access to the support they need during these difficult times. We're actively working with the University to improve the cost of living support available.
- Student Wellbeing: Your mental and physical health is important to us. We offer a range of wellbeing services and resources, including advice and support, wellbeing workshops, and events.
- Academic Representation: Through our elected Council, we’re here to ensure your academic interests are represented at all levels of the University. For example, we are working on a review of the University’s policies for Student Carers, Support to Study, and Interruption of Studies. Remember, our Advice Centre can provide support with academic issues, including appeals and complaints.
